Hello ladies and gentlemen, I have a few questions regarding the terms of use of Emofuri.

I’ve started making some animations with the programs a few months ago and am part of an artistic community who know of it but most of them don’t want to ue it because they don’t understand japanese.

Lately some people approached me and asked me if they could hire me to make some emofuri animations for them. Now the thing I wonder is, witht he free version of emofuri, am I allowed to be paid to make the animations? While technically a PSD with the puppet could be sold, would it then be fine to use it in emofuri? I do sell art commissions but I have never sold anything related to emofuri yet as I’m not sure of what i am allowed to or not.

Also a website recently asked me if I could make a short animation of their mascot to be put on the front page would that be allowed if they themselves dont own a license of use?

By using google translate I tried visiting the FAQ section but sadly all the information got messed up in translation so I’m not sure of anything, and on the order forum for a full version, it seems like there are options for indie developpers or larger companies, but is there a possibility to have an options for freelance artists too?

Im just trying to know what I am allowed to do or not as I don’t want to get in trouble but seeing as there is one thing not a lot of people in my near community can do and the interest they have in my work, I would love to have an opportunity to finally make some money of my hobby but not if I risk getting in trouble over it.

Bumping the thread, I have seen english replies from staff members in other threads, so I believe at least one moderator can read or write in english. Would it be possible to ask them to help me with these questions? At first I thought the mods didn’t get on the forums often but seeing multiple threads started after mine getting answered on the same day saddens me a bit. In the worst case scenario i’ll ask one of my japanese friends to help me create a thread in japanese, but if possible I would prefer not to bother them with this.

    Hello Volganos!
Thanks for your inquiry, and we’re glad to see interest in E-mote and Emofuri from around the world. Sorry for the delay in our response, and thanks for your patience. We appreciate that you are taking the time to understand the terms of use.

Emofuri can be used for commercial purposes as long as you are using it as an individual or a hobbyist, and aren’t part of a company. This includes personal commissions you make as an individual or small scale group projects. If you make more than ten million yen a year with these activities, you qualify as a company, rather than an individual or hobbyist.

Even if you take a commission as an individual, it is not permitted for the resulting creation to be sold by a company. Individuals / hobbyists may not sell the data they create with Emofuri to a company for them to use in a commercial project.

If you are doing business with a company, please purchase the commercial version of Emofuri, known as E-mote.

Free distribution falls under the same rules. Hobbyists and individuals can use Emofuri for free distribution. Those who qualify as companies must purchase the full version of E-mote.

Additionally, as an individual, you are only allowed to sell the images and movies outputted from Emofuri. You are not permitted to resell the Emofuri project data (.MMO files).

I hope this explains things clearly. Please let us know if you have any further questions!
